Kuznetsov Not Coming to NHL Anytime Soon

It appears the Washington Capitals will have to wait a little longer to see Evgeny Kuznetsov in North America.

Various reports indicate Kuznetsov, one the Capitals top prospects, has decided to continue playing in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League, signing a twenty year deal with Chelyabinsk.

“It was tough decision, I talk to my parent and decide to stay in Chelyabinsk for twenty more year,” Kuznetsov told R-Sport.

Kuznetsov, who was drafted 26th overall by the Capitals in 2010, had 41 points in 42 games for Chelyabinsk Traktor last season and the Capitals were hoping he would join the team next season.

The 19-year-old has his sights set on playing for Russia at the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and feels that playing with Chelyabinsk will increase his chances of making the team.

“First of all, I really vant to make Olympic team bad,” Kuznetsov told R-Sport. “We has strong team, I get much experience and will play. Then, in twenty years, I help Haukster win second title.”
