OFHL Regular $eason Ends; Playoffs Begin

REGULAR SEASON WRAP

  • Season ends with Cordy taking the Championship with a 0.813 winning percentage; 2nd highest since his 0.827 16 years ago.
  • Rolphy ended solidly in 2nd and gets to enjoy the Derko Cup all of next year. We expect to see it adorn one of the Horizons HVAC vans ripping around the Cariboo.
  • With Cordy wrapping up the OFHL Championship last weekend, there was really only one race left to decide: the Third Place money.

3st

  • In the end, Fulty stretched his lead over Derko in the final week and grabbed 3rd spot and the extra $40.
  • T-Man rounded out the 5th & final $ spot. It should be noted that T-Man finished ahead of Derko in player points. Just sayin’.
  • EZ jumped 2 spots in the final week to grab top loser spot and the last lottery spot (which actually belongs to  T-Man)
  • Stifler bests JBR in the Battle of Expansion Cousins
  • Orv finished 2nd last but that just means he will likely get a great lottery pick this yea… wait…what? He traded that pick to T-Man? Oh. Nevermind.
  • A more detailed wrap-up of each GMs season will be released at year end.

PLAYERS OF THE YEAR

Here are the leaders in each category:

Rookie: Matthews TO (Vinny) & Laine WPG (Stifler) 61 points

Vet: Zetterberg DT (Vinny) 62 pts

Forward: McDavid ED (Stifler) 88 pts

D-Man: Burns SJ (Rolphy) 99 pts

And for the 2nd year in a row…

Goal: Holtby WS (Rolphy) 100 pts

Holtby could have been a 3-peater if not for falling to Carey Price back in 2014-15

The Napkin Re-visited

It looked like the napkin would have some validity early in the season, but predicting the final standings of 14 teams seven months before the conclusion is tough work. While the prediction of finish within the top two tiers was relatively close, the bottom tier was almost perfect.

One thing is clear with this prediction business, time spent on the toilet is not directly proportional to your powers of prognostication.

LET THE PLAYOFFS BEGIN!

  • Playoffs will run for the last two weeks of the NHL season
  • Teams will continue to submit weekly rosters for duration of the playoffs
  • Total points for all playoff weeks used to determine playoff winners
  • Playoffs will be tiered based on OFHL regular season final standings
  1. Tier one – all teams that finished in the money at the end of the regular season – Cordy, Rolphy, Fulty, Derko, & T-Man
  2. Tier two- those teams that finished out of the money but not in the bottom 4 – eZ, Haukster, Vinny, GoJo, Erty
  3. Tier three – the bottom 4 teams in regular season – Stifler, JBR, Orv, Ren & Stimpy

The winners of each playoff tier will win the following

  • Tier one – a draft pick at the end of the 5th round in the next year
  • Tier two – a draft pick at the end of the 4th round in the next year
  • Tier three – a draft pick at the end of the 3rd round in the next year

Turn your sound on to really enjoy this… or just imagine Vinny saying “Playoffs?” thirty times.

That’s it boys! Another great season. Let the playoffs begin!

Week 12 – Holiday Edition

RAMBLINGS

Despite fewer games, Fulty had a solid week (34pts), while Stifler brought up the back-end (9pts)

Fulty is on a 14-0 run (and doing it with 3 Oilers!)

After a rough start, Erty is quietly going about his business

T-Man fit to be tied: 5 ties this year; just like an EPL team

TRADES & TRANSACTIONS

Lots of players moving around this week:

  • Fasth ED goes to JBR (your goaltending situation just got worse!)
  • Hodgson BF goes to Fulty (still not too late for Cody, but Orv and the Sabres might have wrecked him)
  • T-Man adds a top 6 player in Spooner BO (top 6 in the AHL)
  • Orv grabbed Campbell FL to solidify age his defence
  • Bouwmeester ST naturally went to Team Holland and switches from Blues to Oranje
  • Colborne CY takes his rich-boy act to Haukster
  • Sproul DT gives Vinny a young player that is ready to crack Detroit’s roster (in 2021)
  • Rynnas DL goes to Fulty…..and the song remains the same
  • Martin PT goes to Cordy.  Vinny lauds the trade as “Cordy gets a role player. And that role is ‘Player-to-be-cut.'”
  • Rolphy “sent a message” in releasing and re-selecting Smith-Pelley-Smith AH.

TRADE: T-Man sends Trochek FL & 5th in ’16 to Rolphy for Kuemper MN

  • ANALYSIS: Lose-Lose-Win — Kuemper might be a decent goalie, but The Wild have a habit of cursing their goalies with various maladies (Backstrom, Harding), plus, they have no museums (Bryzgalov).  Trochek is a decent centreman but he’s buried in the depth chart behind 4 C’s who are his age or younger.  The only win here is the 5th, which Rolphy has traditionally used to pick up such players as Orlov, Henrique, & Dickenson (Angie)

TRADE: Orv trades Pietrangelo ST, 2nd ’16, and C’s 5th ’16 to Cordy for JJohnson CBJ, Barrie CO & 5th ’15

  • ANALYSIS: Win-Win — (see below)

Week 7 – At the Quarter-pole

WEEK 7 RAMBLINGS

  • ROLPHY had the best week with 38 points (points from every player), but unfortunately only played 2 games.
  • CORDY holds 5 point lead over Derko, Haukster & Fulty
  • EZ sits in 5th, but his player points would have him in 8th (courtesy of ofhl analytics)
  • LUCK ‘o the VINNY – had the 2nd best week (32pts) but went 1-1-1.
  • STIFLER gets his 2nd win of the season (both against JBR)

TRADES & TRANSACTIONS

1. Erty trades Zemgus Girgensons to JBR for a 5th.  Erty had to trade him after he couldn’t get ORV’s butchered pronunciation of his name out of his head

2. Fulty sends Goligoski DL

Goligoski

to Erty for the pick-up; picks up John Klingberg DL

Corporal Klinger

John “Klinger” Klingberg

Pick-up for week 7 goes to a lottery again.  JBR 1, 2, 3 — Stifler 4, 5 — T-Man 6……. and for the 2nd week in a row, it’s a six.  T-Man……the clock is ticking.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

3-way tie for POTW: Carey Price MT, Jamie Benn DL, and Sami Vatanen AH all mustered 6 points

Week 2

WEEK 2 RAMBLINGS

  • 2 teams still undefeated; Haukster and Cordy both at 5-0
  • It could easily have been 3 teams with perfect records as for the 2nd week in a row Rolphy has the 2nd best player points, but just happens to be playing the team with the best weekly player points.
  • Stifler & JBR faced off in the battle of Newbies with Durand taking the win.
  • But JBR pulled off a win of his own against ERTY who is still looking for his first win
  • That means this week’s pick-up goes to Erty
  • JBR picked up Jared McCann of the Canucks and dumped Superstar Dany Heatley

Cut-Down Day Rules

On Nov. 2 (after week 4) we will cut our teams down to 30 players — 13 on the roster, 12 on the bench, and 5 on the prospect list.  Remember the Prospects rules

PROSPECT LIST – the prospect list may include any players who are 23 years or younger on the day they were placed on the list.

  1. On Cut-Down Day, each GM will designate a Prospect List of 5 players maximum
  2. No player may be designated as a Prospect or moved to the Prospect List after Cut-Down Day unless they are acquired through the pick-up
  3. Prospect List player may be activated to the Active Roster or Bench at any time. The player loses their “Prospect” designation for the remainder of the season while on an OFHL roster. If the Bench has 12 or more players, a player must be dropped to make room for the player coming from the Prospect List.
  4. Teams may have more than 5 prospects on their roster during the season, but must cut down to 5 by the pre-draft cut-down day.
  5. The Prospect List may only carry more than 5 players if another Prospect is acquired through a trade.
  6. At the end of each season, Prospects are placed on the regular roster.

Inaugural Week 1 Complete

The first week of the 22nd OFHL season is underway.  Welcome to the pool, Stifler & JBR. We will all help you through these first few tough weeks (and EZ will email you personally for trades involving your first rounder next year.)

Erty (aka Eli Manning) has taken over officepools this year so any bitching about goalie fight point issues will now be sent his way.  To access the Officepools.com you will need the login & password.  It’s posted on the board.  Access it by clicking Rolphy’s tattoo

Rolphy had a great week with 31 points, but unfortunately he played Derko who had one more point and one more win.

SUNPEAKS ’14

The Year of the Rainbow Puking Unicorn wasone of the best drafts ever! No major injuries, almost all GMs paid their fees, and no one had to sleep in the furnace room (except for Rolphy – but HVAC guys are weird that way)

The new issues discussed:

  • the money for this year will be divided up:
    • 1st $190
    • 2nd $130
    • 3rd $90
    • 4th $50
    • 5th $40
  • Any first-time GMs have to be in attendance for their 1st draft
  • Maximum number of GMs allowed in OFHL capped at 14
