Draft Weekend 2022

It’s been 30 years since this silly little, never-ending party started. Thanks to Derko for hosting and letting us invade his home; thanks to Shelley for giving up a weekend at home and organizing all the food (cuz we know Derko couldn’t do that himself; and thanks to Caleb who vacated the basement suite for the 3 guys who got to sleep in peace each morning while everyone else woke to Stifler’s thunderous laughter!

Friday night started with a lesson in Tyson Jost’s impending Super Stardom and a debate on the hotness of Jenna Fisher.

A somewhat convincing “Breakout” article written by someone with a very runny nose.
No debate, really.

Saturday was a perfect day for golf. And Snake Juice.

First Flight – “The Top Flites”
2nd Flight – “The Senior Circuit”
3rd Flight – “Snake Juicers”
4th Flight – “The Haukless Wonders”

Door prizes of exploded beer and Oilers shivs were presented before handing out last year’s winning hardware.

Fulty lifts “The Orv” OFHL Champion trophy and gives a loving hug to his best friend and runner-up, T-Man.
T-Man is overjoyed to hoist the Derko Cup.

A graphical tribute was presented to the Kmsh by GoJo. It showed how easy it was to dominate the early members of the draft; much like the British did with their colonies throughout history. But times have changed and the subservient masses have now found their voice.

Chico’s tribute shows the need for more reconciliation in the OFHL

Here’s what The Napkin had to say… FYI the percentage is something that only makes sense to a guy who would press his ass against a dining room window.

Haukster’s going to #SuckHardForBedard

Great weekend, brothers! Get your rosters into Erty before the 11am PST start time of the first game Oct. 7.

And remember, this guy is watching us from hockey pool heaven and wouldn’t want us to do anything he wouldn’t do.

2021-22 OFHL SEASON REVIEW

The 2021-22 season is over and thankfully it was a full season complete with OFHL playoffs for the first time in many years.

Congrats to Vinny on winning the OFHL playoffs! The last week of the playoffs wasn’t really close as Vinny steamrolled over T-Man 36-20. Vinny wins $120 while T-Man picks up $60 for runer-up. 3rd place went to R&S who beat Fulty 28-18. R&S pick up $40 for 3rd place.

4 FOR A 4th POOLTeam Orv won the 4th rd pick with a 2 week total of 61 points, beating Rolphy (55 pts), Derko (46 pts) and EZ (45.)

9-11 POOL – Congrats to JBR who finished with 104 points, betting Erty by just 2 points. Cordy finished with a pathetic 77 points. JBR gets an end of the 3rd round pick.

2022 Draft Lottery – We will do the draft lottery very soon so you can start planning for the slow draft in Sept. Here are the number of balls each team will have based on their finish. Each team gets the number of balls based on the order they finished – 105 balls in total.

  • Stifler finished 14th, so 14 balls or a 13.3% chance of getting 1st overall
  • GnR finished 13th but traded their 1st rd pick to Derko for Caufield MT. MoneyPuck approved.
  • Haukster was 12th – 11.4% of picking 1st overall
  • Cordy was 11th – so 11, plus 5 for Vinny’s 1st and 1 for Fulty’s 1st, gives a 16.1% shot
  • JBR – 10th gives 9.5%
  • Erty – 9th – 8.6%
  • Team Orv – 8th – 7.6%
  • Derko – 7th – so, 7 plus GnR’s 13 gives a 19% chance; best in the draft
  • Rolphy – 6th – his 6 plus R&S’s 3 gives an 8.6% chance
  • Vinny – 0% – traded his 1st to Cordy
  • EZ – 4th – 3.8%
  • R&S – 0% – traded his pick to Rolphy
  • T-Man – 2nd – 1.9%
  • Fulty – 0% – traded his 1st to Cordy

That’s it! Beauty year, boys. Keep social on WhatsApp & the board and we’ll do the draft lottery soon.

Enjoy the playoffs.

Week 22 – Fulty Stretches Lead

Thinking of tearing it down and going “full re-build?” According to the NHL, you need to give it 9 years to flip.

The NHL’s bottom 6 in 2013 looks a lot like the top 6 today

What about the OFHL?

OFHL DRAFT 2021

Great to get back to Sun Peaks for an awesome weekend. Special thanks to Derko for building the OFHL Clubhouse in Sun Peaks; a truly amazing facility! Thanks for accommodating a dozen Neanderthals for the weekend. Also thanks to Fulty for organizing the golf, Haukster for connecting the remote GMs, and GoJo for organizing the food and designating a GM to look after each segment of the weekend. It all made for a relatively smooth weekend.

The only change to the rules was the adoption of a time-limit to the final pick in the slow draft – 12 hours. Fulty pushed the issue and the GMs collectively pushed back but all was good after a session of “Boys Kiss!”

Thomas?

Championship Trophies Presentations

Two years worth of OFHL trophies were presented.

Haukster’s pumped to get his 2nd Championship
The last 2 Derko Cup winners. Is there ever really a “winner?”
2020 Champion Haukster presents “The ORV” to 2021 champion T-Man
The OFHL’s Newest Trophy addition is presented to the OFHL Golf Tourny’s winning team, “The Bottom-Feeders” who somehow managed to go one under par even after 3 bottles of Peanut Butter Whisky. The yet un-named trophy was generously donated (stolen) from GoJo’s Ex #1.

The Electric Napkin

GoJo punched the lineups into his “MoneyPuck” algorithmic conflagrations and managed to predict Fulty to beat T-Man this coming season. The model, however, also predicts GoJo to finish 3 spots higher than would any sober eye-test.

That’s it boys. Season starts Tuesday Oct 12. Get your Krak-on!

Week 13: Fulty’s First… True Story

It came down to an NHL review of Pittsburgh’s goals on Sunday night. Fulty got an extra point from Guentzel late Sunday night, and that was enough to give him the win and jump him into 1st with four weeks to go.

OFHL AVERAGES

Averages are still being collected and here are the averages of each player position after week 12 and which GM has the best/worst at each position.

  • Forwards average is 2.7 points a week. Best: Fulty’s at 3.6 pts/week. Worst: GoJo 1.8 pts/week
  • Rookies avg 1.0 pts/wk. Best: T-Man 2.6 pts/wk. Worst: EZ 0.2 pts/wk.
  • Vets avg 2.4 pts/wk. Best: Fulty 3.9 pts/wk. Worst: GoJo 0.9 pts/wk.
  • D-Men avg 2.1 pts/wk. Best: T-Man 2.9 pts/wk. Worst: Rolphy 1.4 pts/wk.
  • Goalie avg 2.9 pts/wk. Best: JBR 4.8 pts/wk. Worst: GoJo 1.6 pts/wk.

Question: Since rookies have so little value should we try to add value to them? Previously we gave them points for games played. Re-visit that? Double value on goals like we do for D-men?

SHRAPNEL

Tanev gets a few words in. Four f-bombs, one “joke,” one “loser” and one “sheriff.”

THE WEEK THAT WAS

  • JBR had the big week with 46 points & went 3-0
  • Also 3-0? Fulty, Erty, & Stifler
  • T-Man still has the lead in player points. Twenty points ahead of Fulty.
  • Vinny still sits in 3rd and still has a shot at winning this… true story.
  • Big movers? JBR up to 4th (and in the last $$$ spot), Erty up to 5th, Stifler up to 10th
  • GoJo’s on an absolute heater! Supertanker heater, that is. Thirty-three losses in a row.
  • Pick up goes to lottery. A 5 is rolled so Rolphy gets the week 13 pick-up
  • Looks like the last week will indeed be a “Super Week” as the Canucks are scheduled to play 19 games in 12 days or something like that. Should be fun!
  • Trade deadline is Sunday April 18th at midnight.

FROM THE ARCHIVES TO THE FUTURE

25 years ago this guy had 120 points … and white skates.

You’ll be hearing a lot from this kid. 15-year-old Connor Bedard of the Regina Pats leads the WHL points with 28 in just 14 games played, and Friday night, his WHL season came to a close as he’s joining Team Canada for the upcoming IIHF U18 World Championship.

Get ready for the 2024 NHL Draft! THIS KID IS GOING TO BE GOOD!
