THE CURSE IS REAL!!

WELL, THAT’S IT. THE 2023-24 SEASON COMES TO AN END

Here’s a recap on the PATH TO GREATNESS as provided by the latest Champs. (Click on image and enlarge for clearer version)

Thanks to all who contributed to the pool in any way; especially to ERTY for the weekly Officepools changes, and to FULTY for keeping the files up to date, and adding content to the weekly updates – even if much of it has to be censored or edited to make it SFW.

Ren & Stimpy OFHL Champs 2024!

Team Ren & Stimpy Win 2nd Straight OFHL Championship!

That ends the regular season for 2023-24:

First Place: Ren & Stimpy – (63-8-1; $450) – It was never in doubt for the two-time winners of “The ORV.” There was a late push from Derko where he came within 10 points of the top spot, but a late trade deadline deal for Letang solidified the win (even if their magic number was only 2 at the time…) R&S led from week 1 and never fell from that spot; it was the first post-to-post run in OFHL history. Had top D-Man: Makar with 100 pts. Had over a 100-player-point lead over the next closest team. Is there a “Three-Peat” coming?

Second Place: Derko (50-19-3; $180) – A great 2nd half of the season wasn’t enough for Derko to catch the champs. It was a huge improvement on last year’s 9th-place finish. Had top forward: MacKinnon 127pts. Huge jump from 9th place last year.

Third Place: Rolphy (49-22-1; $160) – Rolphy consistently moved up the standings all season and went on a 15-3 run mid-season to help the push. Had top Vet: Panarin with 107 pts.

Fourth Place: Stifler (41-27-4; $60) – Stifler put in a lot of hard work all season – starting with his draft and trades – to build a contender this season. He battled with his expansion cousin JBR all season but managed to grab the last money spot on the last week of the season.

5th Place: JBR (40-28-4) – JBR was in a money spot for much of the last half of the season but fell out of the money on the last week. He played without a rookie for the last 10 weeks after Fantilli went down with injury. Would trading for a playing rookie have gotten him into the money? Had the top Goalie: Geogiev with 82 pts.

6th Place: Cordy (39-30-3) – Was as high as 2nd after week 5 but sat in 6th for most of the season. Big climb from 12th last year.

7th Place: Fulty (36-32-4) – This year marks the first time Fulty’s finished out of the money since 2014. That’s an impressive run. Same record as GnR but gets 7th as he had 31 more player pts.

8th Place: GnR (36-32-4) – Hung around 10th for most of the season but got better near the end

9th Place: Erty (35-34-3) – Hovered in the middle of the pack all year. Dropped from his 5th-place season last year

10th Place: Team Orv (27-42-3) – Sat in 3rd after week 3 but that’s as good as it got.

11th Place: EZ (21-50-1) – First season below 50% winning % in 5 years. Had the 2nd worst player points.

12th Place: T-Man (19-51-2) – What happened? The past 3 years he finished 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. Just last year he had 104 points (0.754 win %). This was the worst season in T-Man’s history (even his very first season.) Recent discussion at Foxy Friday is that T-Man has lost his touch. Time will tell.

13th Place: Haukster (17-53-2) – Won it all in 2020 and is still in rebuild mode. Had top Rookie: Bedard 57 pts.

Last Place: Vinny – After 2 years of pushing for a top money spot (and ripping along at a 0.618 clip all last year) it all fell apart on Vinny this year. Started bad and stayed there. Hopefully, the number of pick-ups and numerous draft picks will help Vinny build for future years.

AROUND THE LEAGUE... MISSING BOBBLEHEADS RETURNED

The mystery of the missing Jaromir Jagr bobbleheads has been solved. The Pittsburgh Penguins announced Monday that the team secured the return of the truckload of stolen bobbleheads after intense negotiations. The Penguins would not reveal who stole them, but said they were tipped off when a Sun Peaks-based optometrist was noted offering a Free Jagr Bobblehead with every Vision Exam & Complimentary Mammogram. “It’s surprising what Hockey Mom’s will do when their kid wants a novelty item,” said the resourceful optometrist.

Apparently, Bobblehead Jagr doesn’t have the requisite mullet as shown on the Pinnacle hockey card series from the early 90s.

Am I the only one who didn’t know “Angry Squire Barnes” played for the Leafs, and that “Phil Collins in a toupee” was the Blackhawks goalie?

FRED SOLVES THE MYSTERY

In 05/06 Jonathon Cheechoo had a stat line of 82-56-37-93. His only season over ppg and only season with more than 37 goals. Hyman is currently 68-51-19-70. His previous best was 36 goals last year. Coincidence?

Poor Burrows. Not even in the chat yet catches some shrapnel. “We need to come out strong in da turd”. – Burrows, in every 2nd intermission interview.

OFHL PLAYOFFS – Some changes to the OFHL Playoffs this year (except for Vinny, T-Man, & Haukster – you guys are DONE!)

Top 8 Playoff Pool – Teams finishing 1st through 8h in the OFHL regular season are in a head-to-head playoff pool. Week one will have teams 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5.

  • Week one winners will go into the “A” side of the pool while the week one losers will go into the “B” side of the pool.
  • Playoffs will continue head-to-head for week 2 and 3 until we have an “A” side winner and a “B” side winner
  • The “A” side winner will receive a pick at the end of the 4th round in the next year. The “B” side winner will receive a pick at the end of the 5th round.

9-11 Pick Pool – Teams finishing 9th through 11th in the OFHL regular season (Erty, Team Orv, & EZ) are in a three-week total points pool. (changes allowed weekly) The winner receives a pick at the end of the 3rd round in the next year.

And finally, NHL Referee Kyle Rehman reffed his 1000th game on Friday night. It makes sense that the Oilers presented him with a “1000” jersey, but why did the Kings present him with their number “10” jersey? Anze Kopitar had the answer.

“Have you seen Rehman’s wife?” said Kopitar. “She’s a smoke show! A total 10!”

WEEK 22 – Team Ren & Stimpy Win 2nd Straight OFHL Championship!

Congrats to Ren & Stimpy who dominated the OFHL this season and wrapped up their 2nd straight championship with two weeks still remaining in the regular season. Their 2nd win of “The Orv” trophy ties them with Haukster for two OFHL championships.

Orv holds “The ORV” high after his OFHL Championship win!

In the next two weeks pay attention to the races for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th as Rolphy could still catch Derko for 2nd & The Derko Cup, while the battle for the last money spot is a close one between JBR and Stifler.

TRADER’S REMORSE

Tman has recently expressed remorse on WhatsApp over some of his recent trades, but none more than his recent trade with JBR. JBR is not a frequent trader, so he was probably unaware he isn’t allowed to trade other GM’s players. Lesson learned Tman!

THIS WEEK

  • R&S win the regular season; just need to see if they can top T-Man’s 90.2 winning % from 2021.
  • Big Week: Rolphy with 47
  • Stinky Week: Team Orv with 22
  • 3-0 weeks for Erty & Rolphy

  • Derko’s magic number to clinch the Derko Cup is 3; Rolphy’s is 8
  • Rolphy’s number to clinch 3rd is 2
  • JBR and Stifler are in a battle for 4th with JBR having one more win, but Stifler owning the tie-break (TP – Total Player Points)
  • Top F: Kucherov with 7pts
  • Top Rook: Bedard with 7 (no one else had more than 2)
  • Top Vet: Panarin with 7
  • Top D: Fox with 7
  • Top G: UPL, Shesty, & HelleyB with 6

With a 9-0 record, it really has been the Ren & Stimpy Show so far this year.

OFHL HISTORICAL QUOTES

UNTIL NEXT WEEK…

Cut-Down Day Nov. 5th at midnight (end of week 4). You’ll have to set your 25 rostered players (13 active, 12 on the bench,) 5 on the Prospects List, and the rest are cut.

And to make things easy for the bean counters… when posting on the board, make one post for your cuts and prospects, and make a separate post for your starting lineup changes for Week 5. It keeps Fulty & Erty from posting memes about you.

AND WHEN YOU’RE GETTING READY FOR HALLOWEEN, PLEASE REMEMBER

CONGRATS TO 2022-23 OFHL CHAMPION, and winner of “The Orv” Trophy, REN & STIMPY!

Image Courtesy of T-Man’s private comic collection

It took 7 years but Team Ren & Stimpy won their first Championship in a great come-from-behind race. After week 11, Team R&S wasn’t even in a money spot; in fact, they were never in 1st place until it counted… the final week of the season!

1st Place and Winners of “THE ORV,” Ren & Stimpy. It all started with a 1st round pick of Nick Schmaltz AZ back in 2016 and built from there; Hischer in ’17, Hughes in ’18, another Hughes in ’19, and a bunch of smart trades after that.

Their 77.5 winning percentage was the lowest by a Champion since 2104 when Derko won with a 72.0 percentage.

Is this the beginning of a Dynasty?

2nd Place: Congrats to JBR who had the most player points (by 63) and is the proud winner of the DERKO CUP. Can’t wait for the next visit to Chiropractic Associates & Health Clinic to see Derko’s Cup proudly displayed as you walk into the waiting room. Definitely worthy of a stop during the Williams Lake Art Walk 2023!

JBR joined in 2015 and, other than 2022, it’s been a steady climb.

3rd Place goes to T-Man who had a great run but faltered in the last few weeks. A look back on T-Man’s past decade shows he knows how to build a program.

The last money spot goes to Fulty who pushed early for a 5th Championship but had to settle for 4th.

UP NEXT, PLAYOFFS…

OFHL Playoffs run for 3 weeks (changes allowed weekly) for the top 11 teams. The season is over for Cordy, Vinny, & Haukster. See ya losers next year!

Elite 8 Playoff Pool (top 8 teams from regular OFHL season)

Week One: Head to Head

  • 1. R&S v 8. Stifler
  • 2. JBR v 7. EZ
  • 3. Tman v 6. Rolphy
  • 4. Fulty v 5. Erty

Week Two Semi-Finals:

– Week One winners continue playoff. (Highest v. lowest)

– Week One losers go to 2 weeks of total point play down for a pick at the end of the 4th round next year

Week Three: Finals (Semi-Final winners play for 1st ) (Semi-Final losers play for 3rd)

9-11Pick Pool – 9. Derko, 10. Team Orv, & 11. GnR

  • Teams finishing 9th through 11th in the OFHL regular season are in a three-week total points pool. (changes allowed weekly)
  • The winner receives a pick at the end of the 3rd round in the next year.

Playoff Tie Breaker – the tie break will be a “Shoot-Out.” The 2 teams decide a winner based on the past week’s points of the highest individual point-getter on each team (the player can be any position.) Example: Team A’s top scorer has 8 points, and Team B’s top scorer has 7, so Team A gets the win. If the teams are tied, we compare their 2nd best scorer… and so on until we get a winner. A coin toss is still the final authority.

Orv would have said the final week was a “Gooder!”
